Española ligt in het uiterste zuidoosten van de Galapagos-archipel en wordt, samen met Santa Fe, beschouwd als een van de oudste eilanden (ongeveer vier miljoen jaar). Als gevolg van de vlakheid van het eiland is het een van de droogste eilanden, met slechts een paar centimeter regen per jaar. Española is stervende: langzamerhand wordt het een rotsachtig, onvruchtbaar land met weinig of geen vegetatie.
Española Island is located in the extreme southeast of the Galapagos archipelago and is considered, along with Santa Fe, one of the oldest, at approximately four million years. The climate is very dry, like most of the Archipelago. But due to the flatness of the island, it is the driest of these islands, with only a few inches of rain per year. Española Island is dying, slowly becoming a rocky, barren land with little or no vegetation.
