Death Valley is gelegen in de Mojave-woestijn: het laagste, droogste en warmste gebied in Noord-Amerika. Badwater Basin is het laagste punt in Noord-Amerika, gelegen op 86 meter onder de zeespiegel. Furnace Creek houdt het record voor de hoogste betrouwbaar gemelde luchttemperatuur ter wereld, 56,7 °C op 10 juli 1913.

Death Valley is located in Mojave Desert: the lowest, driest, and hottest area in North America. Death Valley’s Badwater Basin is the point of the lowest elevation in North America, at 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley’s Furnace Creek holds the record for the highest reliably reported air temperature in the world, 134 °F on July 10, 1913.
