Volgens de legende werd het Kushida-schrijn in 757 gebouwd op bevel van keizer Koken. In 1585, tijdens de Hakata-periode, werd het huidige hoofdgebouw van de tempel door Toyotomi Hideyoshi herbouwd.
According to tradition, in 757, when Emperor Koken was in the reign, the shrine was built on the emperor’s order. In 1585 during the Hakata restoration, Toyotomi Hideyoshi contributed to rebuild the current main building of the shrine.
