Lake Nakuru National Park werd opgericht in 1961 rond Lake Nakuru. Het is vooral bekend om zijn duizenden, soms miljoenen flamingo’s die langs de oevers van het meer nestelen . De oppervlakte van het ondiepe meer is vaak nauwelijks herkenbaar als gevolg van de steeds verschuivende roze massa. Het aantal flamingo’s op het meer varieert naargelang de hoogte van het water en voedselvoorraden. Een gebied van 188 km² rond het meer is afgezet als een toevluchtsoord om Rothschild-giraffen, zwarte neushoorns en witte neushoorns te beschermen.
Lake Nakuru National Park was created in 1961 around Lake Nakuru. It is best known for its thousands, sometimes millions of flamingos nesting along the shores. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink. The number of flamingos on the lake varies with water and food conditions. Also of interest is an area of 188 km² around the lake fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild giraffes, black rhinos and white rhinos.
