Quiriguá is een oude archeologische site van de Maya’s. Tijdens de Klassieke Periode (tussen 200 en 900 n.Chr.) lag Quiriguá op de kruising van enkele belangrijke handelsroutes. De plaats was bewoond in 200, de bouw van de acropolis begon in ongeveer 550, en grootsere bouwwerken werden opgericht vanaf 850. Daarna viel de bouw stil, met enkel een korte opflakkering tussen 900 en 1200. De site werd herontdekt door de Engelse architect Frederick Catherwood in 1840.
Quiriguá is an ancient Maya archaeological site. During the Maya Classic Period (AD 200–900), Quiriguá was situated at the juncture of several important trade routes. The site was occupied by 200, construction on the acropolis had begun by about 550, and an explosion of grander construction started in the 8th century. All construction had halted by about 850, except for a brief period of reoccupation between 900 and 1200. In 1840 Frederick Catherwood, an English architect, was the first European to visit the ruins.
