De bouw van het mausoleum begon op 2 september 1973 en het werd officieel ingehuldigd op 29 augustus 1975, geïnspireerd door het mausoleum van Lenin in Moskou . Het is 21,6 meter hoog en 41,2 meter breed . De tuinen rondom het mausoleum hebben bijna 250 verschillende soorten planten en bloemen uit verschillende regio’s van Vietnam. Het gebalsemde lichaam van Ho Chi Minh wordt bewaard in de afgekoelde, centrale hal van het mausoleum die wordt beschermd door een militaire erewacht . Het lichaam ligt in een glazen kast met gedimde verlichting . Tijdens mijn bezoek was het mausoleum gesloten omdat het lichaam hersteld moest worden.
Het Ho Chi Minh museum is een beschrijving van het leven van Ho Chi Minh , met 8 chronologische onderwerpen . De eerste, 1890-1910 , is gemodelleerd naar zijn opvoeding, woonplaats en jeugd. Het tweede onderwerp betreft de komende tien jaar, waar Ho Chi Minh de wereld rond reisde om een manier te vinden om het land te redden van het kolonialisme . De volgende drie onderwerpen, die betrekking hebben op de jaren 1920-1945, tonen hoe Ho Chi Minh de invloed van het marxisme en leninisme heeft vertaald in de oprichting van de Vietnamese communistische partij en het streven naar nationale onafhankelijkheid . 1945 tot 1969 is het tijdsbestek dat geportretteerd wordt in onderwerpen 6 en 7, waarin de nationale held voornamelijk besproken wordt in zijn politieke leven tot aan zijn dood .
The construction of the mausoleum began on 2 September 1973 and the structure was formally inaugurated on 29 August 1975 and was inspired by Lenin’s mausoleum in Moscow. It is 21.6 metres high and 41.2 metres wide. The gardens surrounding the mausoleum have nearly 250 different species of plants and flowers, all from different regions of Vietnam. The embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh is preserved in the cooled, central hall of the mausoleum, which is protected by a military honour guard. The body lies in a glass case with dim lights. During my visit the mausoleum was closed because work had to be done to restore and preserve the body.
The Ho Chi Minh museum is a description of Ho Chi Minh’s life, with 8 chronological topics. The first one, from 1890 to 1910, is modeled after his upbringing, hometown and youth. The second topic concerns the next ten years where Ho Chi Minh travelled the world to find out a way to rescue the country from colonialism. The next three topics, covering 1920-1945, depict how Ho Chi Minh has translated the influence of Marxism and Leninism ideal into founding the Vietnamese Communist party and striving for national independence. From 1945 to 1969, which is the time-frame portrayed in topic 6 and 7, the national hero is primarily discussed in his political life up until his death.
